FAQs

What are dermal fillers?

Age, exposure to pollutants and damage from the harmful rays of the sun can cause Hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin in the skin diminish. As a result, skin loses structure and volume and becomes drier as we age. Additionally, ageing skin loses fat, leading to loss of plumpness and smoothness. Over time, we start noticing visible aging signs such as lines’ formation, wrinkles and folds.

Dermal fillers are injected just beneath the surface of the skin to volumise, soften and hydrate the skin, simultaneously providing support to collagen and elastin organisation for more youthful texture and appearance.

At Novello Skin, we only use the safest, most effective, well researched dermal fillers. The Hyaluronic Acid fillers are one of the most popular treatments due to their properties of attracting and retaining water, instantly improving the skin’s appearance and texture by restoring its natural plumpness. HA is found in the skin, and nearly all biological fluids and tissues. It is naturally biodegradable, and will be removed from the skin over time.

Another effective treatment with long-lasting results for facial volume restoration and contouring is collagen-stimulating therapy. Due to its dual action as volumiser and skin firming agent via the body’s natural response to induce collagen, products such as ELLANSÈ®, Radiesse® and Scultra® became popular treatments for global facial rejuvenation.

How long do dermal fillers last?

The dermal fillers last between 6-18 months, depending on the areas of the treatment and how each individual anatomy reacts to the HA. They are biodegradable products and will break down over time, therefore, further treatment may be required to maintain your natural appearance.

Collagen-stimulation therapy results vary between one to four years, depending on the product and personal anatomy.Your medical practitioner will give you all the advice you need to help prolong the longevity of the treatment.

Is ther any discomfort during the procudere?

We will take all care, required to minimise possible discomfort, associated with the procedure. Most people say that they found treatment much more comfortable than they expected, rating the discomfort levels 0-1 on a 10 point scale.

Will my skin look worse if I decide not to continue with dermal fillers in the future?

There is no evidence that these treatments make wrinkles worse. In fact, evidence suggests they can have a lasting effect on wrinkle reduction, as the dermal fillers today are clear hyaluronic gels that closely mimic the natural hyaluronic acid in our skin.

Is there a downtime?

Some swelling and bruising are possible. You can resume normal activities right away and achieve great results if the appropriate aftercare advice is followed.

Do I need an allergy test prior to treatment?

There is no need for allergy testing because the fillers contain hyaluronic acid which naturally occurs in your skin and is used in other medical treatments. The HA used in fillers is very similar in structure to our own HA. If there is a little swelling, you can be camouflage it with makeup from the next day after treatment.

There is not testing requires prior to collagen-stimulating therapy either. The careful clinical assessment during the consultation is key to choosing the correct product.

However, some brands of dermal fillers contain a local anaesthetic that may cause a reaction. If this concerns you, please let your practitioner know so that an alternative product may be used.
